It’s been almost two years when Dropbox has announced its Mailbox service for iOS, and later on it was made available for android too. Now on Monday Dropbox officially announced that it will be shutting down its Mailbox service on February 26, 2016.
The Mailbox was first launched back in 2013 and just after a month Dropbox acquired Mailbox which has provided many helpful features including a snooze button which can be used to reply to important emails. Later on, Mailbox expanded to Android and Mac.
Dropbox said that the company is trying to increase its focus on collaboration while detailing about the decision.
“We realized there’s only so much an email app can do to fundamentally fix email.” The team will now focus on streamlining “the workflows that generate so much email in the first place.”
On the other hand, Dropbox also announced that it will also shut down its Carousel photo app on March 31, 2016. Dropbox has introduced the carousel app back in April 2014.
Detailing about the decision Dropbox said in a statement on its blog post,
“On March 31st, we’re shutting down Carousel app as a standalone app and returning to a single Dropbox photo experience. Carousel has always been a way to view and interact with photos stored in Dropbox. All the photos in your Carousel timeline will remain safe in your Dropbox where they’ve always been. If you have photos you received through conversations or shared albums that you want to save, check out the instructions in our Help Center.’’
The company said that users will still be able to view and share their photos in the Photos tab views on the web and in their Dropbox mobile apps and company will also integrate some key features of Carousel into the core Dropbox app, in the coming months.
