WEB DESK: A boy who was arrested for taking a homemade clock to school has filed a lawsuit against his school and city for $15 million.
Ahmed Mohammad, 14, was held in police custody after he took a homemade clock to school, which the teacher thought was a bomb.
The arrest sparked outrage, sympathy and the trending hashtag #StandWithAhmed. The case made global headlines.
His lawyer in a letter asked for $10m (£7m) from the city of Irving and $5m (£3.3m) from the Irving Independent School District, stating that Ahmed has been scarred and traumatized after the experience.
In addition the lawyer demanded a public apology.
Ahmed and his family have moved to Qatar since then, where the teenager is pursuing his studies.
Ahmed was invited by American President Obama at the White House, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg and Google co-founder Sergey Brin.
